PSA: Don’t Trip & Hit Your Ear on a Table at Night ✅

PUBLISHED: 10/13/2025

Warning: don’t read this article if looking at slight blood is disturbing to you. This article features pictures of my ear before, during, and after getting stitches.

Here we go! :)

Have you ever had a day of fun filled randomness leading to one clumsy moment, then leading to having to get stitches at the ER? Well, I have! I sure am one lucky duck! (In all honesty, it is a night that I will oddly forever treasure in its totality.)

I’m not typically prone to injuries. Most likely due to luck more than anything. However, not being prone to injuries is different than never getting injured. On this particular day, I had a very fulfilling time out and about and had no idea that my night could end in an injury while in the comfort of my own home. Yet, that is exactly what happened.

One clumsy misstep led me to tripping in my living room and hitting my ear (just right dammit) on the living room table. The result…a gash on the upper part of my right ear. I really didn’t recognize how much of a problem my injury was at first (partly being in denial of needing to get it checked out), but was encouraged to get it checked out just in case. And thankfully I had a friend to accompany me. It was late at night and all that was open was the ER (of course). Side note: I am scared of going to any sort of medical place, I hate waiting, and I can’t stand how things can cost so much for no reason at medical places…which really didn’t make me happy about having to go to the ER. Oh well though!

My ER visit started around between 11:30pm-12am and ended around 6am the next day. An unintentlal all-nighter! Unfortunately, we didn’t have any coffee and I was very sleep deprived and delusional by the end of the visit.

Essentially, the visit consisted of me waiting, of me being told I needed stitches, of me waiting some more, of me getting 8 stitches (not fun), of me waiting more, and then of me finally being discharged. Yaay!

My ER experience wasn’t as bad as I had imagined it to be. A tad expensive in the end, but otherwise not bad overall. It will surely be an experience I will always remember, and in hindsight it’s funny to think that a little trip can lead to getting ear stitches. This is your PSA to not be clumsy like me, to not trip in your living room, and to not hit your ear just right on a table at night..or you may end up in the ER like me!

Thanks for reading!

Love, Sam! 💛
